Pastor Adam Hiett

Pastor Adam Hiett has been leading Second Baptist Church with energy and dedication since 2023. With a profound passion for the gospel and a vision to nurture a vibrant, inclusive community, Pastor Adam's leadership is both inspiring and grounding.

Pastor Adam prefers to preach through one book of the Bible at a time. He allows the text to speak for itself and prayerfully looks of application to share. His favorite scripture is John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” Pastor Adam says, “It sums up the story of redemption so perfectly in that Jesus came to make way where there was no way. Jesus will always be the answer.”

Beyond his pastoral duties, Pastor Adam treasures his family life. Married to Aimee in 2019, they share a deep commitment to faith and family. Together, they are the proud parents of Judah, their son, who has brought immeasurable joy into their lives. The Hiett family is eagerly anticipating the arrival of their newest member, Henry. This growing family embodies the love, warmth, and spirit of community that Pastor Adam fosters within our church.

“When you walk through the doors for the first time, we want you to know two things: First, God loves you more than you can imagine. Second, you are not alone anymore.”

-Pastor Adam Hiett

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is an important step of commitment in a person’s faith journey.

You may join by public profession of faith, and baptism by immersion. Or, if you are currently a member of another church, you may join by a letter of transfer or by a statement of faith.

BAPTISM

Baptism is a public profession of faith in Christ that symbolizes your old way of life being put to death and a new creation being raised up. Baptism is not necessary for salvation, but a voluntary act of obedience. We baptize by immersion, and only those who decide for themselves that they are ready to follow Jesus.

NEXT STEPS

If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, you are curious about baptism, or you are interested in joining our church family—please contact the pastor, or come forward during the invitation at the end of the service.

We will help you with the next steps.

History

On May 5, 1924, Tabernacle Church was organized as a church plant through FBC Okmulgee with Rev. Olen Cornelius pastoring. The church boomed and by August 1928 the membership grew to 395.

Not long after, the congregation voted to change the name to Second Baptist Church.

In 1978, Second Baptist, under the direction of Rev. Bob Burch held the first services for a church plant at the new Nuyaka Baptist Mission, which would later become Nuyaka Baptist Church.

Through the Great Depression, Dust Bowl, and numerous wars, Second Baptist still stands strong in Okmulgee.

In 2023, during Second Baptist 99th year, God led and the church voted in the 16th pastor, Rev. Adam Hiett. We are excited to celebrate the church’s 100th anniversary on May 19, 2024.
